Keeping Up with Your Lash Extensions

Lash extensions were one of the best decisions I made. Although full of questions and somewhat hesitant at first, I am so glad I jumped in and went for it because it was so worth it! Wink Lash Bar couldn't have been more helpful when it came to answering all of my questions and making sure I was fully informed on how to care for my new lashes.

I've gotten a lot of questions from friends and readers about the upkeep of lash extensions, so I thought I would share what I know and hopefully it will help you make your decision on whether to get them or not. Keep in mind, everyone's lash cycle and natural lashes are different, so some people may have different experiences than mine.

Are they heavy and uncomfortable?

They were surprisingly not heavy at all and I barely even noticed they were there. I always hated when I would wear strip lashes and felt like they were weighing down my eyelids. These just feel like your natural lashes which is good because they are comfortable, but some days I would really forget I had them and would go to rub my eye and have a mini freak out cause I thought I just rubbed half of them off. Fortunately the adhesive they attach them with is pretty sturdy so even if you do forget and rub your eyes they won't fall off (try to avoid rubbing your eyes though).

What do you have to do daily to maintain them?

Your lash studio will provide you with a brush to brush your lashes with everyday to keep them separated and fluffy. Also make sure you remove your makeup with an oil free makeup remover like the Garnier Micellar Water and gently dab them instead of rubbing. Another tip I learned is to sleep on your back or if you MUST lay on your side, let your face hang off the side of your pillow a little bit so you don't bend your lashes.

Can you still wear mascara?

You can still wear mascara just make sure it is not waterproof and make sure to wash it off at the end of the day.

How long do they actually last?

My lashes lasted about a month with one touch up in between. When they started falling out it was only a few at a time and it didn't look awkward missing a few here and there. I was so worried that when they would start falling out it would like I had a balding eyelid, but not the case at all thank goodness!

How were your natural lashes afterwards?

My natural lashes were just as healthy afterwards as they were before I had the extensions. Make sure you go to a very knowledgeable salon that really cares about the health of your natural lashes like Wink Lash Bar. Making sure you keep your natural lashes stay healthy and happy is so important.
