Maintaining your Summer Tan

Summer has arrived and that means it's time to pull out our bikinis and short shorts. Now if you have been following along on here for a while, you know that 265 days out of 365 you will usually find me rocking my natural fair skin. Gone are the days when I could (or would) lay outside for hours on end and bake my skin to a crisp. I've learned my lesson the hard way and now I make sure to lather on some type of sun protection when I am going to be out in the sun for a while. Sun protection is also so important to prevent wrinkles because we all want to make sure we look like were 16 when we're 60 right??

Although I may not have naturally tan skin like my Dad, I do like to fake it in the summer with self tanners. One of the most important things to me about self tanners? Looking Au naturale! Self tanners have come a long way to make sure that they look natural and you aren't walking around Willy Wonka town like an Oomp Loompa.

I recently was gifted the Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tanning Dry Oil to give a review and I have to say, this is one of the best self tanners that I have ever used. Now I know you may think that I'm just saying that because I was gifted this product to write a review, but in all honesty I have tried dozens of self tanners and they have either come out too dark, left me streaky, or had a super bad smell. This self tanning dry oil smells like a tropical oasis and left ZERO streaks, yes ZERO! The best part is it won't stain your clothes or sheets.

Here are a few tips to achieve a flawless streak free tan with your self tanner:

1. Exfoliate and then shave

You want to make sure your skin is smooth and rid of all dry patches or dirt before you apply your self tanner. Use a scrub or a mitt like this one from Bondi Sands before you shave to make sure your legs will be smoothed to perfection.

2. Put lotion or oil on your hands & feet

Our hands and feet are always the spots prone to give away our faux glow. Make sure after your get out of the shower you put a lotion or oil on your hands and feet to prevent them from turning orange.

3. Tan a few days before your big event

Because I am so fair, I always like to do 2 applications before any big events to make sure my tan is even. Two days before, I will do my first application and that will be my base. I will sleep in it, shower off in the morning and then reapply to help even out any spots that I missed or turned out streaky.

4. Sleep in your tan

For some reason my tan always seems to come out better when I sleep in it as opposed to putting it on in the morning and letting it bake all day. I like to believe that it is because we are not running around sweating in it all day and it can actually soak in. Try it out and see what you think next time you self tan.
